Ember is dying. The doctors can’t tell her why, just that her time is running out and she should consider hospice care. Deciding to take one last trip to see something of the world before it’s too late, she goes to Ireland and manages to fall though a portal to the land of the Fae.
A predictable human meets fae and is destined to save the world story. Ember is the heroine resigned to dying, but still with a final spark of rebellion within her. Raffety, the fallen hero she has to save and fall in love with, is the perfect hero with all his weaknesses. They do go well together, a nice perfect fit, but it all falls a little flat.
Don’t get me wrong, it was well written, with great characters, but there wasn’t that spark, it felt a little meh! to me. And then to end on a cliffhanger of all cliffhangers well, that was disappointing. No closure of anything really so you have to read the next book just to get a complete story, and as this is a trilogy, I expect we won’t get any answers until book three.
