Genre: Steampunk Fantasy

Following her parents’ disappearance, Gwyndolyn Carstairs dreams of joining the hallowed halls of the Astro-Archaeology Guild just like they did. But when the map she painstakingly and diligently plotted goes missing-and with it all hopes of presenting to the Guild-she sees everything she longed for evaporate.

Realising there is someone with the temerity to enter her locked office, she follows her erstwhile colleague, Dr Nicodemus Aster, to the airship dock. There, a sudden storm thrusts her into an unwanted quest, and far away from everything she has ever known.

When adventure and academia collide, fuelled by secrets and lies, Gwyndolyn will need to rely on her deepest instincts and inner strength. Only then will she discover who to trust-and uncover the mystery of her parents’ vanishing-if she is to obtain what her heart desires the most.

Helen’s Thoughts: 5/5

Archaeology of the Stars is a beautifully written tale of a woman battling against the odds to be recognised for her skills not her gender. Being a woman in the 1900’s is challenging enough but add in a male orientated guild when you want to be a astrologist, and it gets even more difficult.

Not only does Gwyndolyn have to battle for her right to apply to be a member, but their is also a sinister conspiracy involving the disappearance of her parents. So begins an adventure that will test her mettle and her reputation as she is thrown into an adventure with Dr Nicodemus Aster, a bothersome sky pirate who sets her heart aflutter.

If you like ancient puzzles, airships, and an intelligent women who can hold her own, then you’ll enjoy this fantasy adventure. Add in a splash of romance and conflict, and it will keep you turning the pages. I look forward to the continuation of the adventure, where I hope we will find out more about Kip and whether Gwynnie and Nico find out what happened to her parents.
