Helen’s thoughts: 5/5
I was so happy to be returning to the world that Braddock has created. Reading the second book in her Banshees curse series was like returning to old friends.
The continued angst between Cara, Shay and Killian was wonderful. It was nice to dig a little deeper into their feud, and to find out what really happened. All the while as Cara’s companions roll their eyes at her obtuseness and get on with developing their own relationships.
I have to say that I was not happy with the ending. It was a cliffhanger of all cliffhangers and Braddock better get on and finish the third book or I’ll be yelling at her again. Having been drawn into the story, the build up to climax, to be left …, I was frustrated I must admit. But don’t let that put you off reading the book, it is well worth it, and Braddock promises the next book will be released in the spring 2022! We will have to hold her to it. No pressure!
The ending aside, Braddock writes beautifully, her characters are warm, lovable and intriging, yet flawed. She weaves in her diverse characters seamlessly, though sometimes there is a little too much emphasis or explanation on why a character behaves the way they do that stands out and pulls you out of the story, as if the diversity is the key plot.
An enjoyable next installment, providing more depth and context. The relationships between the characters is the best bit for me. If you like enemies to lovers in an ever expanding diverse world, then this is the book for you.
About the author:
Characters and their worlds have inundated Kristen’s mind since she was a kid. Traveling to far off places and having words on a piece of paper transform into entire scenes pulling at her emotions is an obsession.
