BOUND BY BLOOD.
TEMPTED BY DESIRE.
UNLEASHED BY DESTINY.
Bryce Quinlan loves her life. Every night is a party, and Bryce is going to savour all the pleasures Lunathion – also known as Crescent City – has to offer. But when a brutal murder shakes the very foundations of the city, Bryce’s world comes crashing down.
Two years later, Bryce still haunts the city’s most notorious nightclubs – but seeking only oblivion now. Then the murderer attacks again. And when an infamous Fallen angel, Hunt Athalar, is assigned to watch her every footstep, Bryce knows she can’t forget any longer.
As Bryce and Hunt fight to unravel the mystery and their own dark pasts, the threads they tug ripple through the underbelly of the city, across warring continents and down to the deepest levels of Hel, where things that have been sleeping for millennia are beginning to stir …
Helen’s Thoughts: 5/5
It took a while for me to pick up this book because of the all the hype, and it it is a chunky book so you need time to dedicate to it. I am glad I read it, though the story didn’t really begin to pick up until the second half. There is a lot of world building and convoluted plot to work through, and this is a wonderfully complex world, before you get to the meat of the story and the murder mystery begins to make sense.
Bryce is a true wounded heroine, battling her personal demons as well as those surrounding her. Hunt is unravelled slowly, his own wounds being revealed as he helps Bryce deal with hers. They are a mirror of each other and a perfect match.
I loved Lele and Syrinx, as well as Danika. Wouldn’t we all love a friendship like that. The otters were a cute touch, and Bryce’s excitement over them was lovely. This is a huge world, a universe in fact, and with all the different peoples, the world just keeps expanding.
Without trying to give spoilers, I did find the ‘betrayal’ event towards the end rather jarring, as it it was such a sudden step change and out of the blue, or I missed all the clues! I thought I had missed some pages at first.
All in all the ending made the book worth while and I will definitely continue the series.
