An excellent dark fantasy with an anti-hero you’ll grow to admire, even if he’s more likley to kill you than love you. This is a rather gruesome tale of an assassin on a bloody hunt for vengeance, though under all the violence and blood, their lurks a soul that could be redeemed, and a man who cares for those no one else does.
His lust for vengeance is for a reason, as those he sheltered are viciously murdered. And beneath his anger and need for revenge, their is also a need to understand who he really is, and it is that tale that grips you rather than the carnage which I did avert my eyes from on occasion.
It is the tale of the gods and where the Hunter fits into it that is riveting, and although to begin with he is not the expected hero, even amidst the horror, Peloquin does an amazing job as he emerges as the one you want to root for.
If you like plenty of bloodshed, a high body count and morally grey hero who grows on you, then this is the book for you.
