Genre: Paranormal Mystery

Two worlds collide when Emily Swift turns thirty and her late father’s journal lands on her doorstep… Seventeen years after Emily Swift’s father died, a door is opened to a new world, an Empire led by peculiar men and women called Salesmen – transporters of magical items. These Salesmen have the unique ability to travel from place-to-place, and even world-to-world, simply by stepping through the “right” door.
Now that Emily is thirty, it turns out that she can “door travel” too, stumbling unplanned into kitchens, bathrooms, and alleyways as her connection to the Salesman Empire is revealed. Fueled by the cryptic notes and sketches in her father’s journal, Emily discovers the real reason behind his death: he was targeted and assassinated by the Fringe, a terrorist group of rogue Salesmen.
After an attack that leaves an innocent woman dead, a rare book containing clues to the whereabouts of the Crimson Stone is missing. Emily is charged with getting it back. As she races through the Empire, she pursues John Templeton, the mysterious Salesman with extraordinary abilities, who seems to both help and undermine Emily at whim.
With new friends Anne Lace and the boyish Rabbit, she tracks Templeton, but the Fringe is not far behind – as two new murders prove. Along the way, Emily struggles to balance her desire to find out who killed her father against the task of recovering the legendary stone. The internal journey of reconciling the father she hardly knew, with the great leader she’ll never know, forms the foundation for a fast-paced race to keep powerful magic out of violent, fanatical hands.
Helen’s thoughts: 5/5
What a fun and enjoyable book. Looking for a bit of light entertainment without out all the heavy lifting? Then this original twist of a portal fantasy with a nod to Alice in Wonderland, and a cozy mystery thrown in, can’t be beaten.
I first met Brown’s (@writertracybrown)characters , Emily, Templeton and Rabbit in the TopsyTurvyBookTour on Instagram, where you drop your characters into different genres, and there were some amazing results, often quite hilarious, and it was such fun to do. I admit I joined in too.
I digress! The point is her characters were intriguing so I went to find her book. It is so nice to find a novel with older characters. Brown’s main character Emily is thirty. It is not until her thirtieth birthday that The Book, capital T, capital B, arrives and the fun begins.
Beautifully written, easy to read, you glide though the story as Emily learns there is more to the world than she thought, and that if you open the wrong door (or the right door, depends on your perspective!) you could end up not where you thought you were going.
Emily is brave and adventurous, Templeton is mysterious, suave and good at disapearing. Rabbit is delightful, and I can’t wait to find out more about them.
A fun adventure, with plenty of twists and turns, a new world for you to explore and great characters to meet. You won’t regret picking this book up.
About the author:
T.L. Brown is the author of the Door to Door Paranormal Mystery Series. She was born in snowy Western New York where she developed a love of reading and writing – her mother never denied her request for a book. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in History – Political Science.
After college she moved to Rochester and began to create a story about an average thirty-year-old who was caught between two worlds: the known one and a new, often dangerous place known as the Empire. That character became Emily Swift.
Tracy now lives in the beautiful Finger Lakes of New York State dreaming up new stories and quirky characters that make life all the more interesting. She believes magic still exists, you just need to look in the right places.
She’s married to one damn amazing man. Together they garden, cook, and raise chickens that lay the best “homemade” eggs in various shades of brown.
Door to Door is available on Amazon to purchase and also Kindle Unlimited. (at the time of posting).
