If the murderer you’re tracking is a vampire, then you want a vampire detective. Just maybe not this one. It’s not that Jack Valentine is bad at her job. The youngest member of Oxford’s Seekers has an impressive track record, but she also has an impressive grudge against the local baron, Killian Drake.
When a human turns up dead on May Morning, she’s determined to pin the murder on Drake. The problem is that none of the evidence points to him. Instead, it leads Jack into a web of conspiracy involving the most powerful people in the country, people to whom Jack has no access. But she knows someone who does.
To get to the truth, Jack will have to partner up with her worst enemy. As long as she can keep her cool, Drake will point her to the ringleaders, she’ll find the murderer and no one else will have to die.

It’s quite nice to read a book set in a location not far from where you live. Though I’m not sure I’d want vampires that close by!
May Day is set in Oxford, England and every May Day, the local university students come up with crazy pranks. But this May Day there is a murder, and it’s not what you would call ‘normal’.
Enter Jack, a rather prejudiced seeker who believes she knows who the culprit is, or rather she knows who she wants the culprit to be and she’s determined to prove she’s right. Then another murder occurs and she realises she’s mistaken. Now the hunt is on for real killers.
As a vampire detective, Jack has to work with her nemesis to solve the mystery and find the murderer, if only he wasn’t so distracting!
Well paced, great characters, and if Jack could get out of her own way, no doubt she would be an excellent detective! If you love vampires and love/hate relationships, then this is the novel for you.
