Going to magic school at fifty is the least of Chloe’s worries.

A magical inheritance. A dog with an attitude. A sexy headmaster. And people trying to kill her.

When Chloe receives a bolt of magic out of the blue on her fiftieth birthday, she’s cast into an exciting but tumultuous world filled with Shifters, Elementals, Witches, and one very hot headmaster Witch. In order to return the inheritance to its rightful owner, and satisfy her curiosity at the same time, she must go to the Universal Magush Academy and learn all about the magical community while keeping one big secret—she’s human.

Or is she?

Threats to her life and those she holds dear lurk in every corner. As if that wasn’t enough, students and teachers alike hate her on sight.

As she digs deep to discover who she is, she finds herself in the middle of two battles: one for the fate of humanity and one for the peace of the magic realm. Soon these twisting fates have Chloe questioning everything she thought she knew.

But maybe, with the help of a sexy sidekick and a handful of misfit friends, she’ll teach this magic world a thing or two.

And she might just turn both worlds on their heads while she’s at it…

Helen’s thoughts: 4/5

What a great premise. A woman, trying to re-ignite her life on her fiftieth birthday is struck by a magical inheritance and so begins a life changing adventure. Chloe discovers a world of magic and fantasy and, that she is not who she thought she was.

Struggling to assimilate the changes in her life, she agrees to go to a magical school, to learn how to control the immense power she has gained. But from the get go, she is treated with hatred and suspicion. Even so, Chloe manages to make friends and even finds a love interest in the sexy headmaster, Lex.

Throw in a talking dog, (though I must admit I found the changing names a little annoying, but that is probably just me!), some lovely friendships, complex politics and magical system and you have a wonderful magical adventure.

This was quite a long book, maybe a little too long, but it sets you up for more secrets and revelations yet to come. An enjoyable romp, where you’ll be cheering Chloe on as she faces everything thrown at her, and Lex is adorable (even if he needs to get over his perceived failures already!) as he stands at her side.

About the author:

In the ethos where herds of story ideas run wild and free, I am known as the Devourer of Books. A voracious predator, I—

Okay. I’m a mom of three young children. And I spend way too much time in the fantasy world in my head. But, hey, in this world I’m still supernatural. I channel the powers of my insomnia for good. I’m impervious to kid whining and insults (well, mostly). I have a second sense for cereal disasters and broken toy catastrophes. They call me Mom, which is code for You’re-Awesome-We-Love-You or Stop-Writing-On-Your-Computer-and-Play-With-Me. I’m not sure which. My kryptonite is my pet peeves: water running down my elbows, food stains on papers, and losing the little plastic tethers when you remove the tags off new clothes.

So, yeah, that’s me. Your average superhero mom. Oh, and I’ve got three eyes (one in the back of my head).

UpSpark, book one of the science fantasy romance series The Five Elements, was my debut novel. I’ve also written humorous paranormal romance in The Worst Story Ever Written.
