Declared a renegade
The life you knew in shatters
How do you pick up the pieces?

Bekah and Lan are young professionals, at the beginnings of their careers, but have fallen foul of the Consortium, the huge mining and industrial conglomeration with its stranglehold on the colonies. Into their lives comes the enigmatic Zandra, with a secret so well hidden not even she knows of it, but which will change all of their lives. But an invitation from Captain Pendryl, to join him aboard the Caladrius, may provide the solution they are all searching for.

Crewed almost entirely by the Gifted, the Caladrius will be the flagship of a taskforce protecting telepaths and telekinetics in the colonies. But the mission is not without danger … too many of the colonies have become isolationist and regressive, and see the Gift as witchcraft.

Helen’s thoughts: 5/5

Get ready for a warm hug of a read! Mosaic is a character led science fantasy tale full of well rounded characters trying to do the right thing and help others.

We first meet our characters on a mining world, where Dr Bekah is trying to improve working conditions for the miners, so much so that she crosses the wrong people. Zandra is her house maid, trying to ease some of the stress Dr Bekah is under and soon becomes a close friend. The arrival of the space ship Caladrius is opportune as a route off station for them all.

Once the Caladrius arrives, the story really picks up as personalites clash and secrets are revealed. The story takes a step change as we meet the captain and officers and see how the new arrivals, especially Zandra, impact their smooth routines and question long held beliefs.

I loved Pendryl and his officers. Zandra is a force to be reckoned with and has much to overcome. Each character was well thought out and slightly flawed which helped keep the tension high and the story flowing.

The story will hook you. You’ll think ‘oh, one more chapter’ and then you’ll realise it’s two in the morning! The story sneaks up on you and you become invested in the characters, though I wanted more. There were a few events that happened off page which I would loved to have seen so we could experience the character’s reactions.

I really enjoyed Mosaic. A very easy, addictive read. I look forward to reading more in the world of the Caladrius Chronicles.
