When Max kicks the demon’s nest, he uncovers a conspiracy that forces him to reevaluate everything he thought he knew about his brother. Unfamiliar local politics blur the line between the supernatural and the mundane, and soon, fighting for justice becomes dangerously literal. If Max can uncover the murderer, he might just save his brother’s soul—but if he can’t, he’ll fall victim to the same deadly fate.
Putting the past to rest is going to take more than a shovel full of dirt.

An interesting fantasy tale set in a world with magic about a man who fell out with his twin brother years ago, only to find out that he died before they could reconcile. Returning for the funeral, Max realises that his brother’s death may not have been as innocent as he first thought.
Set in a very well realised world, with enough history to give it depth, Max’s investigations take him into the world of underground magic. The emotional damage of looking exactly like his twin, both for Max and those who knew his brother well, is well written, with the shock and sorrow very well portrayed.
Very clever twist, that I did not see coming and won’t spoil, but in hindsight explains much. There is strong dependency on the Jewish faith and tradition, which although it is often referenced adds colour to the story and you don’t need to know what it all means, though it would probably help. It doesn’t affect the general plot of a PI searching for the truth, but enhances the characters reactions and decisions.
Easy to read if you can glide over the Jewish references you don’t understand. If you can’t do that, then you may struggle to read this book.
