War has reached her doorstep.
She will answer with a sword.

When her little sister dies during an enemy raid, Jenai prays to Holy Afallon seeking protection for her village. What she doesn’t expect is to hear a Voice telling her that she must personally lead the armies of Fraelin against the growing threat.

Joined by a gentle unicorn and a few brave allies, Jenai sets out to liberate Fraelin—even at the risk of her own freedom.

However, the road to war isn’t straightforward. Jenai must first gain the trust of the Crane Prince by convincing him she’s not a fraud. Will the Church of Afallon accept her calling or will they condemn her as a heretic?

Helen’s Thoughts: 5/5

A beautifully written fantasy tale based on the legend of Joan of Arc. Jenai is a devout young woman who once ignored a voice in her head and her sister died. Thereafter she pays attention to the voice and and chooses to follow that path instead of marrying as her father wishes.

A young girl, innocent and naive, she gathers allies on her journey, all guided by the voice of Afallon. One is her wonderful unicorn companion Mirrasae. A companion who stands steadfast and true. Another is Alain, a truly tortured soul who shines though no matter what. As time passes, Jenai grows in statue and influence, but the path is not easy, as many question her purpose, her authenticity, and there are many sacrifices to be made.

This is not a full on action adventure, but more a gentle journey of discovery and growth. Jenai is a character who will surprise many and grow into her legend. A true heroine who has much yet to prove.
