Erika Thompson is a lonely housewife. With her kids recently off to college and her husband working long hours, she spends much of her time reading, hanging out with her dog, and trying to figure out what her next steps should be.
But an invitation to join a local mom group is about to change everything. After numerous attempts to fit in and make new friends, Erika is all but shunned. Her sorrow over this unexpected outcome quickly turns to anger, and she retaliates against the moms who’ve done her wrong. But things don’t go as planned for Erika, and she’s in for some surprises of her own.
Erika’s journey includes a trek through childhood friendships, narcissistic family, an obsession with 80s rock music, and the trials and joys of being a wife and mother. With relationships tested and secrets revealed, can she face the stakes of her quest and become who she needs to be?

Erika is a bored an lonely housewife, left home alone when her children go off to college and her husband work hours get longer and longer. Left alone most of the time, she doesn’t know what to do with herself, and returning to work after all those years of looking after others is not so simple as it sounds.
I think joining an online group and trolling people she didn’t know very well was one of the worst things she could have done. Social media can be unforgiving, and joining in on the hate, can’t have made her feel any better. But she did and sadly felt vindicated for it.
Fortunately, she did see the error of her ways, and found a way out of the mire and saw things more clearly at last so she could make decisions for herself. I did see the plot twist coming, it was kinda obvious.
So well written, it makes you cringe at times, but then that is the genius of this author, who makes us feel Erika’s pain and embarrassment as well as her fight to reach the other side.
