Continuing the adventures of Tobias and Silas, this book is more contemplative, as Pitch drowns in self recrimination and self pity as using his flame had shorn through his defences and cut open the most debilitating wounds possible, drowning him despair and agony.
Silas is left to fend for himself, just as confused and lost, even if he knows bits and peices of Tobias’ life.
Both are stuggling without the other, and the powers that be don’t seem to realise their deep connection. Keeping them apart is only making it worse, and I much prefer them together!
We get to meet a new character in place of Pitch, and although Charlie is interesting and brave, he is not Pitch. Silas is growing into his role, not having much choice without his guardian beside him. When they are together the fire burns, but apart, we miss them. On to book four!
